The Beautiful Blue Hole in Belize: Overcome Fear, Spark Hope and Love

A real-life natural wonder, the Blue Hole in Belize, a spiritual metaphor, and the spark behind The Light of the Blue Pearl.

There are places on Earth that reflect something deeper—something we feel before we understand. For me, the Blue Hole in Belize wasn’t just a dive site—it was a mirror, a teacher, and the spark that helped me face my fears and write the story I didn’t know I was carrying.

Here’s the wild thing: I’ve never been to Belize.

The idea came to me as if whispered by something beyond me—the title The Light of the Blue Pearl arrived fully formed, as if it had been waiting for me to say yes. The opening lines of the book? They were born from a real moment in my own life. But the rest of the story? It unfolded like magic.

As I wrote, I discovered that epileptics often describe seeing a blue pearl before a seizure. That same image wove itself into the story without effort. I stumbled across the Great Blue Hole in Belize only after writing the opening—and instantly knew it belonged. The synchronicity was so strong, I felt like the story had chosen me.

How It Sparked My Story

The Blue Hole became a metaphor, not because I traveled there, but because it came to me—through symbols, intuition, and the writing process itself. The book poured through me in a way I can’t explain.

A young girl named Ethne showed up in my mind, standing on the edge of her own emotional abyss. Her fears. Her quiet strength. Her longing to find clarity in a chaotic world. The ocean taught her to let go. And it taught me the same, in ways I didn’t expect.

So often, we wait until the “right moment” to begin. But what if the moment is right now?

What if fear is the gatekeeper to your next chapter?
